Eduard Klapwijk, MSc.

Eduard Klapwijk MscEduard Klapwijk is a PhD student at Curium-LUMC.

Education: MSc. (Research) in Developmental Psychology, Leiden University

Involved in: Neurobiology; empathy related brain activity in aggressive conduct disorder and autism

"During my master's I studied the neurocognitive mechanisms underlying social interactions and thinking about other people: First, in a project which looked at the relation between pubertal development and these mechanisms (at University College London) and second, in a project that aimed at studying how these mechanisms are modulated by different relations (at Leiden University). Fueled by my work experience in the fields of psychiatry and mental disability, I became curious about the cognitive mechanisms underlying various forms of psychopathology. My current PhD project is the ideal combination of these interests, because it allows me to study the neurocognitive mechanisms involved in empathy and its relation to aggression in people with conduct disorder and autism. I am convinced that our research will shed more light on the underlying mechanisms of these disorders and I hope the outcomes will eventually prove useful in clinical practice."
