Research
The Curium-LUMC Child and Adolescent Psychiatry research program focuses on three areas:
1) Child Public Mental Health: stepped assessment and diagnostics in nonpsychiatric services
2) Routine Outcome Monitoring: diagnostic assessment in child psychiatric services and re-evaluation after treatment.
3) Neurobiology: neuro-imaging and neurophysiology
This research program is being executed by an enthusiastic and experienced group of senior researchers, PhD students and clinical researchers, under the direction of the LUMC Professor of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
The Curium-LUMC Child and Adolescent Psychiatry research program aims at connecting research and clinical practice. At present, a major problem is the gap between basic research and daily clinical work. For example, while a number of instruments have been developed for use in mental health services, family and general practitioners lack methods to screen for child psychiatric problems. Further, to date a multitude of treatments have been investigated with regard to efficacy (effect in rigorously controlled conditions within very specific clinical populations), yet insight in effectiveness (effect in daily practice, in more heterogeneous groups) is scarce.
In order to make this ambitious program successful, collaboration with a number of scientific and clinical organisations is essential.
We are very grateful for the financial support given by a diversity of agencies.
